Bronika Carter
STUDIO OWNER/YOGA TEACHER
About Bronika
Hi, I'm Bron (Bronika), founder of Citta Flow Yoga in Kalamunda.
If you'd told me twenty years ago that I'd one day own a yoga studio, I wouldn't have believed you.
Before yoga became my career, I spent over sixteen years working in engineering recruitment and project management, coordinating rail projects, and helping companies find engineers and technical professionals. Alongside that, I followed my creative passion, studying Interior Design and Architecture before running my own interior design business for eight years.
Looking back, those careers had more in common with yoga than I realised at the time. They taught me how to listen, understand people's individual needs, and create environments where they felt supported and comfortable.
It was a significant health setback that eventually led me more deeply into yoga.
Like many people navigating uncertainty, I found myself facing surgeries, medical appointments and waiting for answers. My mind was constantly busy, and I was looking for something that could help me feel a little steadier through it all.
At first, yoga wasn't something I practised in a studio. Most of the time it was just me, at home, often in my pyjamas, taking a little time to move, breathe and simply switch off from everything that was happening around me.
Those quiet moments became an important part of my recovery and wellbeing.
As my curiosity grew, I enrolled in Yoga Teacher Training. Interestingly, I didn't begin the course because I wanted to become a yoga teacher. I wanted to better understand yoga philosophy, and myself. At that stage of my life, I'd closed my interior design business and was searching for what came next.
As I started attending classes at different studios, I realised there were many people like me, people recovering from injury or surgery, feeling overwhelmed, or simply wanting to move at a steadier pace. Too often, I found classes moved quickly, offered few options, and left me feeling more exhausted than restored.
That experience planted the seed for Citta Flow.
I wanted to create the kind of studio I'd been searching for, a place where people could arrive exactly as they are, without pressure to keep up or perform. A place where breath awareness is just as important as movement, where options are offered naturally, and where beginners feel just as welcome as experienced students.
Today, my teaching draws on classical Hatha Yoga, Yoga Therapy, breath awareness, meditation and the Hatha Yoga philosophy. Every class is designed to help students move with greater ease, develop awareness of their breath, and find a little more steadiness in everyday life.
As I continue my Yoga Therapy studies with Dr Ganesh Mohan, my understanding continues to evolve. The more I learn, the more I'm reminded that no two students are the same. Every body is different. Every breath is different. Every person's story is different. Good teaching begins by meeting people where they are.
Whether you're stepping onto a yoga mat for the first time, returning after years away, recovering from injury, or simply looking for one hour where nobody needs anything from you, you'll be warmly welcomed at Citta Flow.
A Few Things About Me
I’m originally from the UK.
I was named after a camera. (Yes, really!)
I still love interior design, renovating and creating beautiful spaces.
When I'm not at the studio you'll usually find me walking, swimming or planning my next adventure. Asia is one of my favourite places to explore.
I believe yoga isn't about becoming more flexible, it's about becoming more aware of yourself.
My favourite quote, according to my son is… "I'm hungry."
Why is the studio called Citta Flow?
People often ask whether Citta Flow is named after "Flow Yoga." It isn't.
The word citta (pronounced Chit-ta) is Sanskrit word which translates as the heart-mind, the ever-changing landscape of our thoughts, emotions, memories and awareness. In the Yoga Sutras, cultivating a steadier relationship with the Citta is central to yoga practice.
I chose the name because it reflects the philosophy at the heart of everything we do at Citta Flow.
For me, yoga has never been about achieving the perfect pose.
It's about learning to move with greater ease, observe the breath with curiosity, and meet ourselves with a little more awareness and compassion.
That philosophy continues to guide every class I teach.
